How Does a Missouri Workmans Comp Lawyer Get Paid?

Hello, this is Springfield, Missouri Worker’s Compensation attorney Jason Krebs, and in today’s video we thought we’d answer the question, how does a Missouri work comp lawyer get paid?

Now, almost all work comp cases are handled on what is known as a contingency fee arrangement. Missouri caps that at 25% of whatever the lawyer is able to get for you. A contingency fee means, if we’re not successful, you don’t owe anything.

We don’t get anything for our time. Now, there’s case expenses, and there’s
time, lawyer’s time. Case expenses are monies that the lawyer has to put up,
typically most lawyers pay for this stuff up front. Medical records, hiring doctors, vocational experts if necessary, the things that are necessary to prove your case.

And those are due at the end of the case as well, so that’s 25% plus expenses,
and almost all lawyers charge the same thing.

A free consultation is just that, it’s where you can come in and meet with the lawyer and consult. There’s no obligation on either party. You don’t have to hire me, and I don’t have to take your case. Basically it’s just a way to get some information, some general information.

Don’t go into a free consultation expecting a lawyer to give you a blueprint
on how to handle your case by yourself, because cases are pretty complex
and there’s a lot more to them, and there’s no way to really know that without gathering all the facts. And most work comp cases take a fair bit of time.

We do offer a free download book on our website, Krebslawoffice.com, or you can call us at 417-883-5886, or 1-800-345-0535.
