Missouri Work Comp Insurance Companies Love Do-It-Yourselfers

Missouri Work Comp Insurance Companies love it when you “do it yourself”.

Insurance companies want to close cases as quickly and as cheaply as possible. People representing themselves is a primary way they accomplish this.

That’s not to say that small claims involving bumps, bruises and sprains necessarily need the help of a Missouri Work Comp lawyer. Most smaller injuries do not need a lawyer.

What Missouri Work Comp insurance companies really love is when those with severe injuries, for instance those involving surgery, try to handle the case on their own.

Our office recently saw an old case in a Social Security disability claim file where the claimant had multiple severe Missouri Work Comp claims. Not once did the injured party hire a Missouri Comp lawyer. These claims included a multi level fusion in the back that settled for the rating the surgeon gave.

This injured worker didn’t speak with a Missouri work comp lawyer to determine if it was a fair settlement. It wasn’t. This injured worker left tens of thousands of dollars on the table. Even after paying a Missouri workers comp attorney he still would have been tens of thousands of dollars ahead of what he settled his claim for.

We asked him why he didn’t seek a work comp attorney of his own. He told us that the insurance company adjuster was really nice and the defense lawyer who came to the conference at the Missouri Division of Workers’ Compensation was really nice also.  We know him as well and he is very nice, but he isn’t going to give anyone more of his insurance company client’s money than he needs to.

If you have been severely injured, you owe it to yourself and your family to speak with a Missouri Workers’ Compensation attorney before you go to a conference on your own. The work comp judges cannot give you advice.

In the past, they could tell you if the settlement offer was fair. But the judges cannot do this any more. Missouri work comp lawyers get paid on a contingency fee basis, which means you owe nothing up front to find out if we can help.

If we agree take your case, our attorney fee is taken out of your final award or settlement.  Please note that because we don’t get paid unless we get a settlement, not everyone will qualify for a free consultation from our office.
