Here are 5 simple steps to take after a Missouri car accident that could make a difference in the value and success of your case:
1. Write down what happened.
Take notes about what happened both before and after your Missouri car accident. No matter how good you think your memory is, you will forget things. The little details you may not consider important may make or break your case if a dispute arises. Additionally, in some instances your written notes can be admissible evidence if your case actually goes to trial.
2. Take pictures, and keep evidence secure.
Sometimes it is not possible to actually secure physical evidence, so take pictures of the scene either with a camera or your phone. Download them off your phone or computer, save them in multiple places and print them.
3. Get a police report.
Ask for a copy of the report or ask how to get a copy. Get a copy and read it.
4. Get Witness names and contact information.
I can’t tell you how many times I have had a client or prospective client tell me they had witnesses to the accident, but have no idea who they are or how to contact them.
5. Seek help immediately.
One of the most important things to do following your accident is to visit a hospital or doctor as soon as possible. Do not wait! Every day that passes between the incident and examination by a medical doctor (not a chiropractor), the more difficult it will be to prove that your injuries occurred as a direct result of the accident.
