How Will COVID-19 Affect My Social Security Disability Claim In Missouri or Arkansas?

This is Springfield, Missouri Disability Attorney Jason Krebs. In today’s video, we thought we’d answer the question: “Will COVID-19 delay my social security disability claim?” Unfortunately, right now what we’re seeing is yes, it looks like it will. The length of the delay, that would be hard to say.

Today is March 30th, 2020, and we’re right in the middle of that obviously and things are changing on a day in day out basis. They are trying the best they can, the Social Security Administration, they’ve got a lot of people working from home.

That is not the most elegant solution for social security because a lot of these folks really haven’t been prepared for that whereas our office we can work remotely and have been for some time and can. These employees with the Social Security Administration and the groups that help SSA through the State of Missouri aren’t really prepared for that.

So I think there will be some hold up. There’s going to be some hold up on some consultative exams with healthcare providers to go out and send you to be looked at. I think that is going to delay things unfortunately. If you’re over 50 and you’re thinking about applying for disability, I think we’re going to see a real explosion in applications. If you’re in the Springfield, Southwest Missouri, Northwest Arkansas area, give us a call.

We’ll help you with that because our social security disability law firm is still processing applications, still doing appeals and reconsiderations. But unfortunately, I know you can’t go in to the Social Security Office and file on your own right now and it’s our understanding that the phone system is really behind on that and trying to do it online. You need to be careful.

And if you’re over 50 there are some real disadvantages for you to try to do that on your own. But again, I think that with the economy kind of headed where it looks like it’s going, unfortunately, I think we’re going to see a real influx of applications. And we recommend to people, if you’ve kind of been on the fence and you really don’t think you can work anymore, if your employer has been accommodating you, now is probably the time to go ahead and get that filing going and try to get out in front of the curve a little bit.

If you do have any questions, give us a call. (417) 883-5886. We do have an 800 number, (800) 345-0535 and then our Arkansas number is (870) 741-8100. Don’t hesitate to give us a call. We look forward to working with you. Thanks for watching. Stay safe.
