If you are over the age of 50 and are thinking about applying for disability in Missouri or your claim has been denied, here are some things that you need to consider.
1) are you still working? If so, how much? How much are you making each month? For 2014 you can not make $1070 a month to be even considered for disability benefits. This goes up to $1090 a month in 2015.
2) What type of work are you doing?
3) Are you treating with a doctor? How often do you see your doctor?
4) How long have you had the medical condition or impairment? A long time? What has changed that would keep you from working now?
Contrary to what many think, filing for disability is often a difficult choice for many. In my experience, many of my best clients are people who made the decision to seek Social Security disability benefits only after trying to work through injury or illness for a long time. These are some of my favorite clients because I know they don’t want to be in the position they are in and have tried their level best not to be there. Makes me glad to do what I do for a living when I represent these folks.
